Who We Help

Southgate Goodfellows primarily operates  seasonally, beginning in late summer with our School Backpack and School Supply Program and then carries over into the Holiday season which for us begins in September of each year and usually ends in mid to late December.  Please feel free to contact us via email for volunteer opportunities.

Locally, the Southgate Goodfellows helps to ensure that no child under the age of 16 is without a Christmas. We strive to ensure that all of our recipients are able to have a enjoyable Christmas while facing financial difficulties.

In 2021, we were able to help 27 Southgate families with 68 children. Without the support of our generous citizens this would not have been possible.

DONATION INFORMATION:

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we are unable to collect donations and hand out papers in the streets again this year. There are many residents that are still in need. We have placed monetary donation containers in and around the city offices including in the Southgate Police Department and the Treasurer's Office. You may also use the donation button found in the top right corner of this website or mail any donations to:

Southgate Goodfellows

14400 Dix-Toledo Road

Southgate, MI 48195

We cannot accept anything other than monetary donations at this time.

Food donations will be graciously accepted by

Bethel Baptist Church on Trenton Road in Southgate if you wish the items to go to local or Southgate residents. Their Food Pantry hours are: Wednesday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

We have other volunteer opportunities.  We have been successful with the Adopt a Family Program.  With the help of local businesses and local families who are assigned a family to support during Christmas, we ensure that the qualified family receives the help they need.  If your family or your business is interested in "Adopting a Family" please email or call.

Please CLICK HERE to view the Fiscal Year 2022 Income Limits. We use the HUD income guidelines as a gauge for determining eligibility.

Due to COVID-19, we will be unable to lend our usual support to our local senior citizens. Please consider reaching out to the
Southgate Senior Center
if you wish to support these members of the community!

For more than 50 years, the Southgate Goodfellows has devoted its energy to passionately provide Christmas for the needy and less fortunate children of Southgate, Michigan. Over the past 5 years we have been able to expand our giving ability.  We have successfully instituted a School Backpack and School Supply Program for previous years' recipients; and have been able to help dozens of senior citizens from Southgate with donations. In 2009 were able to obtain our 501(c)3 status from the IRS. Find out how you can contribute to the future of someone in need through donations of money and time.
